The Special Committee to Review the Philippine Statistical System (SCR/PSS) has concluded its work on April 30, 2008. The Committee has come out with the report titled 2007 Strategic Review and Evaluation of the Philippine Statistical System (PSS), the salient points of which will be presented to the stakeholders on June 4, 2008 at Romulo Hall, NEDA sa Makati Building, Makati City.
Dr. Vicente Valdepeñas, Jr., Chair of the SCR/PSS, will present the report; the other members of the Committee – Dr. Mercedes Concepcion, Dr. Isidoro David and Dr. Cielito Habito – will also be in attendance. However, Dr. Lisa Grace Bersales cannot attend the presentation because of important matters at the U.P. scheduled on the same day.
The report was first presented to the Directors and other senior officers of the major statistical agencies on April 23, 2008 in the same venue. It will also be presented to the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) during its Board meeting on June 11, 2008. It will be recalled that the SCR/PSS was created by NSCB Resolution No. 14. The Committee was convened on July 11, 2007 and thereafter proceeded to do its work by interviewing key informants, conducting focus group discussions with heads of the major statistical agencies and other stakeholders, regional consultations with data producers and users in Regions 1, 7, 11 and 12. There were also special sessions with experts on the National Income Accounts and agriculture and manufacturing sectors in early 2008.
A hard copy of the report was sent to Secretary Augusto B. Santos, Chair of the NSCB Board on April 30, 2008, the last day of the Committee’s existence. However, the report is still in the process of editing and as such, could not yet be made available to the public. |
