In accordance with its mandate of assisting the government
in planning and policy formulation, has evolved a research program specifically aimed to:
- assess the impact of policies and programs
on the country's development goals;
- identify and analyze current and emerging
policy issues and examine options in dealing with them;
- recommend, where appropriate, policy
options and strategies that, from the researcher's viewpoint, best address the country's
development concerns;
- generate greater understanding of
socioeconomic development processes; and
- help improve planning methods and
approaches.
For over two decades, the Institute has carried out several major research projects under its
research program. These research areas under the program are:
- competitiveness and competition policies;
- environment and natural resource management;
- governance;
- infrastructure development;
- macroeconomic management;
- modernizing Philippine agriculture;
- policy analysis, planning tools and
monitoring system; and
- social sector reform
